Motivational Pictures

This is my last blog post before my post-sickness post-Train 2 Lose weigh-in tomorrow. There will be no fanfare or fireworks; I’m quite positive I’ve gained. It’s just a matter of how big a gain, at this point. But you know what? It doesn’t matter. This isn’t a quick fix or a matter of toughing it out to goal weight. This is a lifelong battle and journey, and this is just a bump in the road. I’ll have many more along the way.

I know that I won’t make it the entire month of March with a daily post every day, but I’m going to keep riding this train for as long as I can.

Today, I have decided I’m going to write about something that I do that does, at least a little, seem to help. I collect motivational images.

Basically, my motivational images are anything that inspire me to continue working hard at my health.

Some are funny, like this one.

Some people are dead set against self-deprecating humor. I love it, and this cracks me up. And for me, it’s frequently true.

Some of my images don’t make sense to anyone but me, like this one.

Yes, that is the Power Rangers. That is a motivational image to me for a rather odd reason. Power Rangers came out when I was a teenager. I thought it was the stupidest show in the entire world. In the summer of 1995, when I was 17, I took my nephews to see the Power Rangers movie while I was babysitting them. I thought the movie was amazing. It had cool special effects, martial arts, and everybody was fit. At 17, I should point out that I was not fit, I did not know martial arts, and I had no special effects. Power Rangers represented, and I’ll be honest – it still does, a healthy lifestyle for me. I can’t explain it, but there it is.

This image is motivating for fairly obvious reasons.

I want to look like Ryan Reynolds. To make it clear, I do not want to do him; I want to look like him. Still, I can’t deny that I have a man crush on him. And the thing that’s a little amazing and I still sometimes have a bit of trouble getting my head around – with hard work, perseverance, and dedication, I could look like this. Albeit with a few stretch marks, but I’ll still take it.

This image motivates me, but it also makes me a tiny bit sad.

That’s me, about four years ago, at the thinnest I have ever been. I weighed around 270 or so in that photo. Some bad decisions led to me ballooning up to 350 recently. This picture is motivational to me because I know that I can get back down to that weight, and even lower. Granted, there is still a gut that has been cropped out of that photo, but I think I look pretty good there. I want to look that good (and better) again.

This is the last motivational picture I’ll share, and this is the one that kind of got me started in collecting motivational images.

I found this one night while stumbling around the internet. The sentiment in it really rang true for me. I hope to someday have a healthy marriage and healthy children and live in a healthy house with a healthy yard and a healthy white picket fence. The key word for me was someday. It was always “someday.” Well, how can I make that happen, if I don’t start now? Not in the morning, or on Monday, but right now?

I keep these images around to help me stay focused. I don’t deny – I frequently need the push.

I’ll probably post one of my motivational images every time that I post my weight on Fridays.

Do any of you collect motivational images? Which photos speak to you?

I really enjoyed this post! I did watch the power rangers when it was new then. I never saw the movie though. That Dr. Phil picture was pretty funny.

Way to get back on track!

and Ryan Reynolds seems pretty cool and is pretty ripped. I think Brad Pitt in Fight Club is another want to look like — even Gerard Butler from ’300′ too.

Power Rangers rock! Nuff said. And Ryan Reynolds? Hawt, nuff said. I’m not too big on the images, but I love motivational quotes! I like the idea of posting them each week, though! :-)

You’ll bounce back from being sick, Jeremy!

    • I am almost back, I can’t wait! :)

And quotes are a good one, too. We have windows on our office here at work, and because we work with kids, we have motivational quotes written on all of them. My window was cleaned yesterday and I haven’t put it back up yet, but it did say “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.” I think that’s a great one. :)

  • A picture speaks a thousand words, doesn’t it ? One image can bring up so many words and feelings , and each of those seem to speak to a different level.

My own motivation is more of a scene from life sometime in the future. My son, who will have overcome many of the challenges of Autism, enters the room wearing some current fashion, and I get upset over him following some current fashion with the sole purpose of getting the girls attention . it will be the first time in his life that he will be able to wear anything in a current trend because his weight is finally under control , and he will be aware enough to understand that he is a part of the world around him. I will decide the best way to handle this frustration will be through rock climbing or some other sport because at long last my body weight is low enough to get my arthritis flares to dissipate and I will be able to return to the activities I loved doing when I was younger. My husband will be at my side because he is concerned that I will either hurt myself or consider taking up company with one of those 20 year old guys who is also climbing. That day will come, and it will come soon.

  • Love the post! Look at you all dressed up! That’s a great pic.

Ryan Reynolds would be nice…I just wanna fit back into my jeans from 2008 (and be able to breathe…)

If you gain this week you can sit on the gain-bench with me. I’m lonley here all by myself!

This inspired me to read some motavional and funny weight loss quotes. Here are a few of them:

Your body is the baggage you must carry through life. The more excess the baggage, the shorter the trip.

The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be only the beginning.

If you want to look young and thin, hang around old fat people.

Don’t dig your grave with your own knife and fork.

If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again.

Instead of giving myself reasons why I can’t, I give myself reasons why I can.

It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.

My advice is to go into something and stay with it until you like it. You can’t like it until you obtain expertise in that work. And once you are an expert, it’s a pleasure.

One has to remember that every failure can be a stepping stone to something better.

A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit.

To live by another’s opinion of you is to make the absurd assumption that only in someone else’s mind are you real.

In eating, a third of the stomach should be filled with food, a third with drink and the rest left empty.
